After 50 years, Fortuna Bourbon Whiskey is back. Founded in the 1880’s by Phillip Hollenbach, Fortuna played an integral role in the early days of the American whiskey industry. While the brand closed it’s doors in the 1960’s, it is now being revitalized for a new generation of bourbon drinkers.
Brook Hill
First established around the turn of the 20th century, Brook Hill Whiskey is being revived by Rare Character, the visionary American whiskey brand. For co-founder Pablo Moix this is a labor of love fueled by his profound appreciation for Kentucky's distilling history and its golden era of craftsmanship. Rare Character's inaugural releases of the new Brook Hill bourbon and rye pay homage to the brand's roots, while bringing it into the modern age for a new age of enthusiasts. The Single Barrel Series is the flagship product line from Rare Character Whiskey—unique and rare American whiskey expressions from distilleries across the country. Each barrel is hand-selected by Pablo Moix, with only whiskeys of the utmost quality making the cut.
Native Wood Series
The Rare Character Native Wood Series is born from the main ethos of Rare Character—challenging norms and introducing remarkable, rare spirits—but with another twist; this series uses native wood barrels from around the world, never seen before in the United States to finish American Whiskey.
Drawing inspiration from the hundreds of years of tradition of aging cachaça (Brazilian sugar cane spirit) in over 30 types of wood, a project like this for the whiskey community has never been undertaken. The vast majority of these barrels have never even entered the US, let alone been used to age fine American whiskey. You can expect some truly unique whiskeys to emerge from this series, featuring exotic and nuanced profiles that you won’t find anywhere else.
Exceptional Series
The Exceptional Series from Rare Character exemplifies the driving mission of our brand: to release the most distinguished and highest quality whiskeys we can possibly source. While our Single Barrel Series is focused on customization and creativity, this new series is focused on curation and exceptional craftsmanship. These spirits are truly unique; they’re even older and more scarcely available than the rest of our offerings. Every bottle released through this series is at least 9 years old, and is of exceptionally Rare Character.
Finishing Series
The Rare Character Finishing Series takes our bourbons and ryes—via unique finishes to impart interesting flavors and aromas, adding depth and complexity. We take our aged whiskeys and set them aside for further aging in barrels used to store other spirits and wines such as Cognac, White Port, Sauternes, and more. These selections will be limited. Every barrel will have a unique tasting profile and will never be duplicated once it is gone.
Obliteration
Rare Character’s oldest and most limited release to date, with only 36 bottles in existence, was a hazmat bourbon that sold out nearly instantly. Be on the lookout for future special releases from Rare Character.
